October Currently...

Hey y'all! I am so excited for October and I'm linking up again with Farley from Oh' Boy 4th Grade for October Currently!

Listening: If you don't watch SCANDAL... then seriously get on NETFLIX now! :) Can't wait for tonight's episode. Plus, Parenthood comes on right after! I LOVE THURSDAYS!

Loving: I am loving the math centers I created at the beginning of the school year for numbers 1-10 and for composing and decomposing numbers to 10. We have continued using the activities from these centers during center time, during small group teaching time, and even during whole group time! Best part... we still haven't gotten to some of the activities yet!

I am also CRAZY about Spider Study during the month of October. I absolutely LOVE studying spiders with my kiddos. I normally throw one big SPIDER DAY that is a surprise to my kiddos. We learn ALL about spiders, make spider crafts, make spider treats, read spider books, etc. I decorate my ENTIRE classroom for this event and it is a HUGE HIT with the K5ers every single year. Last year I found some awesome supplies for this at Target, and they have got some great stuff again this year. Here are some of the things I got...

The craft is awesome because all of the pieces are sticky backed! Even the google eyes!  It actually includes everything you need! I can't stand those crafts that come with the tiny little squirt glue, filled with glue that doesn't even hold the pieces together! You know what I'm talking about...

Thinking: Thankfully, I am just one more day away from my FALL BREAK! I'm heading to Auburn University for the LSU game and to visit my 2 not-so-baby baby brothers and my cousin. I found out yesterday it is going to be an orange game and I have nothing to wear! Oops.

Wanting: I am in the middle of working on math and literacy center activities that can keep me covered for the month of October. So far the only thing I have are some Spider Playdough Mats, which I am also in the process of updating. I am started on a set of  Pumpkin activities and Jack-o-lantern math centers. I am hoping to complete these as well as a complete set of spider centers. I was hoping my blogging buddies could give me some feedback on skills you would like to see included in these packs? What are you currently teaching. Obviously I'll be using these in my own classroom, so they will definitely cover the skills we are working on in October.

Trick AND Treat: Sorry! I couldn't pick... so I thought I'd just give you both! The trick is actually from a post I made earlier this week... but it was such a good one that I just  had to share it again.

Visit my TPT store for a brand new FALL FREEBIE that corresponds with Dr. Seuss's Ten Apples Up on Top. This is great for teaching addition/ways to make 10! I just created this FREEBIE today and my kiddos won't be making the craft until after we return from FALL break... so you will just have to go by what my craft from last year looks like.

(I added deeohgee to my pic because I knew the K5ers would think it was the funniest thing that ever happened! I was right, they did.)

For some EXTRA TREATS be sure to check out my last two blog posts! FREEBIES are included in both!

Happy Fall Y'all!

  1. We are always working on number sense still in October so anything that helps to build those skills (Matching games, number sorts, etc.) In literacy my kids are always all over the map with their needs, but letter sorts, beginning sound matching, building cvc words, and sight word practice are always good any time of year!

  2. I might have to get back into Scandal... I was hooked during season one and then it got boring. Everyone I know, though, is obsessed. I'll have to give it another chance!! Have fun at Auburn!
